Having trouble keeping the momentum going in the off-season? Here are some tips to help you get back on track!

Now that the lawn care industry’s peak season has been officially over for a while (well, for most of us), we wanted to dive into what you can focus on during these colder months. Off-season for lawn care companies is definitely a double-edged sword. You get a break, hallelujah! However, we often forget about what we can do to prepare for when business picks up again in the spring or how we can continue to offer services throughout the winter. Here are some tips to make the most out of this time of year!

What should I do during off-season?

1. Look into offering snow-removal services and other cold weather services.

This may seem like a no-brainer for some of you. If so or if you’re already offering these services, go ahead and skip to tip #2! If not, let’s chat!

The biggest lawn care need for homeowners during the spring and summer is clearly mowing. In the winter, however, snow removal, gutter work, and other services and more needed. If you are able to invest in equipment that can be useful this off-season and those to come, it could help your business bring in revenue all year long!

2. Take time to organize your business and integrate your customers.

Is all of your business paperwork thrown about your office or truck? Now is the best time to get everything organized if you have a little extra time on your hands during the off-season. Additionally, taking the time to integrate all of your customers into the Lawn Buddy platform will make spring and summer a breeze!

If you have only a few customers to put into the system, it’s easy to add new customers and fill out the information for each. On the web portal, click “Quick Add” on your Dashboard and then choose “Add New Customer.” Enter all of their information and select at when you want their automatic invoices to be sent out!

If you have quite a few customers you need integrated, no worries! We offer free integration. We’ll input all of your customers into your account for you if you send us an Excel or Google Sheets file that includes the following information for each customer:

• First Name

• Last Name

• Phone Number

• Email

• Street Address

• City

• State

• Zip Code

By integrating all of your customers into Lawn Buddy before the busy season starts, you will be able to go in and set up their automatic invoicing, create jobs for each customer as soon as they’re requested, and maintain their profile within our platform throughout the season.

3. If you’ve been thinking of looking into loans in order to purchase new equipment, now’s the time.

It’s so exciting when you realize your lawn care business is growing. That realization also leads to some stressful choices! Of those choices, getting new equipment can be one of the most daunting. If you’re customer list grew quite a bit by the end of last season and you’re anticipating continued growth this year, it may be time to look into more or better equipment.

Now, if you’re like most other business owners and don’t have a wad of cash in your pocket, you might want to consider getting a loan! Yes, sounds scary, but it doesn’t have to be. Just make sure you assess your business’s current state and chat with someone who is knowledgeable about the business loan process. It may be the best decision for your lawn care company!
